TALKS AT THE THEATRE: THE COLONIAL
The sun is out and the heat is on - it is officially summer and we have a ways to go until Firebird season is back again. But right around the corner is another Chester County staple: BlobFest. Phoenixville's BlobFest is a celebration steeped in cinematic nostalgia and quirky fun. This annual event pays homage to the 1958 cult classic film The Blob, which was partly filmed in Phoenixville. The plot revolves around a small rural town that becomes the target of a mysterious alien entityβa gelatinous, amoeba-like creature that crash-lands on Earth inside a meteorite.

Attendees, many clad in vintage attire reminiscent of the film's era, mingle with wide-eyed curiosity, eager to relive scenes from the iconic movie. The air is filled with joy and anticipation as the day's events unfold, from a parade of classic cars to a Steve McQueen look-alike contest. In fact, the theater recreates the iconic movie theater scene from The Blob, where a huge crowd runs out of the doors and onto the street! The 25th Anniversary of Blobfest is July 12-14th, and you can get your tickets at TheColonialTheatre.com.
Our interview with Bob Trate, director of programming at the Colonial Theatre
The Colonial Theater in Phoenixville generously welcomed us, allowing us to conduct two interviews: one with their director of programming, Bob Trate, and another with Mayor Peter Urscheler. As we explored the Firebird Festival and the dedicated community behind it, we realized that exploring Phoenixville's rich history and vibrant culture complemented the narrative we were crafting.
